VIL 101: Villain Crusher Foundations
Personal Leadership, Purpose & Social Stewardship

Course Description:

Every person possesses unique gifts, talents, and potential. Yet many never fully realize those abilities because of internal obstacles such as fear, distraction, self-doubt, complacency, or limiting beliefs. Villain Crusher Foundations is a transformational leadership course designed to help students identify and overcome the personal barriers that prevent them from becoming the person they were created to be.

Through a combination of self-assessment, Socratic discussion, leadership development, performance science, reflective practice, and community engagement, students will learn practical tools for building resilience, strengthening character, improving focus, increasing personal effectiveness, and developing a purpose-driven life.

More than a traditional academic course, Villain Crusher Foundations challenges students to apply what they learn through real-world leadership and service projects that create meaningful impact within their communities. Students who successfully complete the course will earn the Villain Crusher Leadership Certificate and complete a Hero Impact Project designed to create measurable positive change through service, leadership, and social stewardship.

Villain Crusher Foundations serves as the gateway experience to the broader Villain Crusher Leadership Institute, an emerging initiative dedicated to developing purpose-driven leaders who maximize their gifts, fulfill their potential, and use their abilities in service to others.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Identify and overcome personal barriers that limit growth, performance, and fulfillment.

• Develop a clear sense of personal purpose, responsibility, and direction.

• Apply proven principles of leadership, resilience, character development, and peak performance.

• Strengthen communication, critical thinking, and self-reflection skills through Socratic dialogue and experiential learning.

Instructor

Thomas E. Schenck, M.A.

​

Thomas E. Schenck is an educator, leadership strategist, speaker, entrepreneur, athlete, and performance coach whose career spans more than five decades across education, business development, athletics, fundraising, media, and personal leadership development.

​

Mr. Schenck earned his Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University and completed graduate studies at Dartmouth College, where he earned a Master of Arts focused on Utopian Philosophy and Human Potential.

​

Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership positions at some of the nation's most respected educational institutions, including Cardigan Mountain School, The Frederick Gunn School, Fountain Valley School of Colorado, Janus School, Wasatch Academy, and as a Founding Trustee of Sisu Academy.

​

A nationally recognized admissions, development, and enrollment leader, Mr. Schenck has successfully recruited students, raised millions of dollars in philanthropic support, and helped educational institutions strengthen their missions and expand their impact. Beyond education, he spent more than a decade as a top-performing sales professional and has built successful ventures in media, fundraising, consulting, and leadership development.

An accomplished athlete, Mr. Schenck has competed at high levels in wrestling, track and field, endurance sports, swimming, and bodybuilding. His experiences as an athlete, coach, and mentor form the foundation of his belief that every individual possesses untapped potential waiting to be developed.

Mr. Schenck is also known for his unique role in popular culture as the first actor to portray Spider-Man for Marvel Comics promotional appearances in New York City, an experience that helped shape his lifelong fascination with heroes, personal transformation, and the power of identity.

​

Today, he is the founder of Villain Crusher Consulting and creator of the Villain Crusher Leadership Framework, a personal development and leadership system designed to help individuals identify and overcome the internal obstacles that limit performance, fulfillment, and contribution.

​

His work integrates leadership principles, performance psychology, character development, resilience, personal responsibility, and social stewardship into a practical framework for lifelong growth.

​

As an instructor, Mr. Schenck is passionate about helping students discover their gifts, develop their leadership capacity, and become responsible stewards of their talents in service to their families, communities, and the greater good. His teaching style combines storytelling, Socratic dialogue, experiential learning, and real-world application to create a highly engaging and transformational learning experience.
