Prof. Elda Peralta

Classical Voice

A native of Tijuana, Mexico, Professor Elda McGinty-Peralta is known for her versatility in singing and teaching classical and commercial music styles. She holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance & Literature as well as a B.A. in Music Education. Professor Peralta is the recipient of numerous local and national awards and is an experienced worship leader, songwriter, and worship director. She has been featured with many ensembles ranging from jazz quartets and big bands to “rondallas,” and in recitals and concerts from baroque to Mexican folk music styles.

Professor Peralta has performed as a soloist with the Chicago Arts Orchestra, Orchestra of New Spain, La Jolla Symphony & Chorus, Orquesta de Baja California, Opera de Tijuana, and Aspen Opera Theater Center. Additionally, she has performed at the Cathedral of Durango’s Third Viceregal Music Festival, the Metropolitan Cathedral in México City and with the San Diego Opera Chorus, Grant Park Music Festival, Lyric Opera Chorus, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus.

She and her husband, Joel, live in beautiful and sunny San Diego, where she serves on the worship team at Awaken Church's East Campus. When she is not teaching or performing, one can often find her spontaneously composing songs for her children, Ezra and Katya.

Professor Peralta teaches Classical Voice at CVCU, helping non-music majors learn to expand their musical analysis, performance abilities, and communication skills through the study of Italian arias and other classical music selections.
