Prof. Jacob Nelson

General Education

Jacob grew up in California where he attended San Diego Christian College as a member of its Aletheia Honors Program. After graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Justice, he went on to complete a Master’s degree in Politics and enter into doctoral candidacy at Hillsdale College’s Graduate School of Statesmanship, developing a rigorous educational background in political philosophy and American politics.

Jacob has worked closely with talented educators throughout his college experience, serving frequently as a teacher’s aide, undertaking a classical school administrator apprenticeship, and working for nearly five years to bring Hillsdale College’s free online courses to its audience of 2.6 million learners. He is presently writing his doctoral dissertation on the political philosophy of Southern slavery defenses and its departure from Founding Era political thought.

Jacob is passionate about education and is excited to have the opportunity through CVCU to extend to others the incredibly formative college experience he received. He hopes to inspire those around him first to love God, truth, themselves, and others, and second, to think and reason intelligently about politics, contemplating the right, the just, the practicable, and their interrelation in a political order. Ultimately, he aims to make an impact for the Kingdom of God, enrich the lives of others, and secure the future of this country one action, one conversation, one person at a time.
